The 2009 Photographic Competition

We thought Peter Wallins’ shot of clubmate’s Tomas Leijon’s Vimy was a worthy winner.

The new September issue features some of the best entries from the recent photographic competition here at modelflying.co.uk so it’s time to announce the top three!
Choosing the best wasn’t an easy task with the overall standard being very high, many of a standard that any professional would be proud. Some were ‘photoshopped’ of course, some were cropped and some were very heavily cropped so we had to discard a fair few but the deserved winner (above) was Peter Wallins’ shot of his clubmate’s Vickers Vimy, perfectly captured against a moody sky. Peter wins a 2-year subscription to RCM&E.

In second place came Stu McCavera’s dancing warbirds (below) – capturing one model is often difficult enough but getting two in such a dramatic pose deserves some recognition we thought. Similarly Alan Bateson’s study of a Nieuport and Pup convinced us that the third spot was his. Stu and Alan get 12-month subscriptions, well done!

You’ll no doubt have your favourites of course but a big ‘thank you’ must go to everyone who took part. We’ll run another competition next year so get snapping while the sun shines!  You can see and discuss all the entries in the forum here.

We gave third place to this Nieuport and Pup by Alan Bateson

Second place went to Stu McCavera’s dancing warbirds
