P-47D Thunderbolt

by

With all the attention devoted to Horizon's new AS3X system last week, the news of this upcoming 30cc, 81.25" (210cm) warbird from Hangar 9 seems to have slipped by largely unnoticed.

The new machine will be very welcome, particularly by those who remember the company's much missed 1.50-size razorback P-47 that was discontinued a few years ago and will appeal to anyone looking to move up from 60-size warbirds.

This P-47D is designed for a 1.60-2.10 two-stroke; 1.80-2.20 four-stroke or a 26-40cc petrol engine and should top the scales at the 16 – 19lb mark. Electric propulsion hasn't been forgotten, the company earmarking their Power 160 outrunner spinning a 17×12 prop and drawing power from 2 x 5S packs.

Flaps and retracts feature of course with the machine designed for Robart retract units – an air system is assumed. A number of optional extras will be available including a cockpit kit, pilot figure, bombs and drop tank.

A December release has been pencilled in, UK pricing has yet to be announced and there's more info at www.horizonhobby.co.uk
