With the winter indoor flying season rapidly approaching, a trend towards small ‘Micro’ shock flyers is apparent if the new models recently announced by UK distributors are anything to go by.
The 4Site pictured here is the new Bind’n’Fly model just announced by Horizon Hobby brand E-flite. It’s a 15″ span machine supplied with pre-fitted Spektrum radio and designed to use the small single-cell 150mAh Li-Po batteries made popular by RTF models such as the Vapor, Ember and Kyosho’s Miniums.
J.Perkins have just launched a new range of shock flyers and some being micro versions including the 16.5″ span Yak shown below. These models are supplied in kit form requiring a 2-cell 100-200mAh Li-Po battery, a 7amp ESC and a small brushless outrunner with a small GWS 5″ prop.
It’s many years since the German firm Ikarus, first introduced the depron foam shock flyer yet the name has stuck in referring to any flat-sided, light-weight aerobatic model. Many 30-40″ span shockies are simply too big for the average sports hall and it just takes one unhappy arrival to inflict damage
